Biomass Survey

Dr. Bruce Pratt

A comprehensive analysis of biomass and land resources has been conducted to determine if adequate biomass material could be obtained to support a commercial biomass to biofuel industry within a 50 mile radius of Winchester, Kentucky. One million metric tons of biomass would be needed for production of 50 million gallons of algal oil per year. Ninety percent of necessary biomass could be obtained from switchgrass grown on under utilized land within a 35 mile radius. Additional biomass could come from crop & forestry residues along with recycled paper.
