Student Spotlight: Sushma Dendukuri
Sushma Dendukuri is a CRAFT graduate assistant and student at EKU. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from India and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in chemistry. She has been on the CRAFT team for 13 months and has been working under the instruction of Dr. Darrin Smith, performing analysis on biomass after pretreatment and before saccharification to identify the degradation products of lignocellulosic biomass. Sushma’s research also involves identification of biomarkers that help to aid in pretreatment analysis and effectiveness.
Through her research at CRAFT, Sushma has had the opportunity to attend and present her research at conferences throughout the United States. “The research being conducted at CRAFT is important to me because it allows me to obtain hands on experience, enables me to be a contributor in the ongoing research for green fuels from biomass as well as gain immeasurable analytical skills and understanding of Direct Analysis of Real Time instrumentation (DART) and Mass Spectrometric analysis," says Shushma. Her future includes applying to a PhD program in the Spring and starting a career in the field of bioanalysis and pharmaceutical analysis.
