CRAFT Celebrates Earth Day Everyday

CRAFT Celebrates Earth Day Everyday

On September 12th CRAFT hosted a booth for EKU’s Earth Day Every Day, a campus-wide event to promote sustainable practices such as conservation and recycling and to remind students, faculty and staff that the values championed during Earth Day, traditionally held on March 20th, should be practiced each day to improve our environment and way of living.

CRAFT staff and students distributed information and answered questions related to its Cellulosic-Derived Biofuels Initiative, demonstrated by a display which housed jars of feedstocks and byproducts utilized in the biomass to fuel process.  CRAFT aims for its research to aid in the development of a sustainable and environmentally-sensitive solution to America’s growing energy demands and to provide economic development opportunities in Kentucky through the commercialization of technologies.  CRAFT seeks to develop fuel technologies that lessen the nation’s dependence on petroleum and other non-renewable sources by focusing on technologies that utilize renewable feedstocks grown within our own borders.

Among the CRAFT booth at Earth Day Everyday were many other campus organizations including the student organization The Green Crew, Environmental Education, Healthy You!, Well 4 You, Habitat for Humanity, Appalachian Studies and many more.

It was very exciting for CRAFT to be a part of this event and we hope to continue community outreach and education throughout the future!
