Center for Renewable & Alternative Fuel Technologies
The Center for Renewable and Alternative Fuel Technologies (CRAFT) was established in December 2008 by President Doug Whitlock with a vision of developing an interdisciplinary program utilizing public and private partnerships to engage in research to foster development of a regional biofuels industry. In addition to the research and development of alternative fuels, EKU CRAFT researches the applications of alternative energy sources for the production of plastics, pharmaceuticals, and other petroleum-based products.
Academic disciplines currently represented include chemistry, agriculture, biology, environmental sciences and economics. As CRAFT’s research expands, even more academic areas will be included.
In addition to its current research and development efforts, CRAFT provides educational outreach services to educators, students, organizations and the general public interested in learning more about renewable energy and alternative transportation fuels.
